Globalization as a policy was passed in the 1990s in India and soon grew in importance as it gave the opportunity to understand and interact with the other countries. It is a progressive step forward for the citizens. Brain-drain is caused when the young, valuable talents leave to foreign lands for better opportunities.  Ample resources are spent on the grooming of the indigenous people. In a competition-driven state like India, limited numbers of seats are available in quality educational institutions. This implies that if the skilled people who were given priority over the rest for their acumen ultimately leave their native lands for better opportunities becomes a serious cause of concern for the country’s own progress and development.

Benefits

Globalization helps in the growth and expansion of the country’s resources as it also welcomes foreigners to contribute in the development process. Moreover, the citizens get a chance to mingle with them and learn. According to recently declared reports, only two Indian universities have claimed a rank among the top 200 institutes of the world. In the words of Ben Stower, QS head of research, Indian universities must focus on their international viability to boost its standing. Thus, it means that compared to other nations we are somewhat lagging behind as far as international collaborations are concerned. The notion is further heightened by the fact that the scientific and technical merits of these institutions are already at par with the other institutions of excellence.

The market scenario has taken a welcoming note towards the foreign investors allowing them to invest in the country. Alternatively, Indians must also take charge and invest in profitable foreign lands giving rise to fresh and novel commercial enterprises.

Drawbacks

The talented citizens leave the country in search of better options like education or employment. The indigenous institutions & organizations in turn will be left with less numbers of skilled task force. Furthermore, the indigenous population may not be very well equipped to face the competitive forces of the world. This may lead to a decline in the advancement processes.

The Push & Pull Factors causing Brain-drain

Certain causes like political drift, socio-economic conditions etc. are very negative drivers leading to brain-drain and must be fought with. While there are positive stimulants like better quality of life & inter-mingled society too that act likes the pull factors.

The impact of brain-drain in other countries when compared to ours reveals significant elements worth noticing, addressing and learning from. Prominent leaders have their take on this and taking inferences from the past, citizens can gather key information that can help them choose intelligently. The citizens need to take the responsibility for their motherland. Certainly, with the services provided by information technology, long distance maintenance of resources, connections and businesses has also become possible. Those people, who have migrated to foreign lands, can very easily maintain their correspondence with those staying in India. They can share their rich experiences and promote awareness among all thereby acting as a source of motivation.
